Hello From Lesley…
At the time of writing this we are going into August and I can hardly believe where this year has gone. Timenorfolk continues to be busy with new clients, groups and some large events coming up for us in the Autumn, which are listed below.
One thing that is happening at TimeNorfolk is the involvement of client’s that have finished their work with TimeNorfolk and want to give something back. It is so encouraging to us all when a client finishes and they ‘tick the box’ to say that they want to become involved in the future with TimeNorfolk.
I have attended several meetings at the NNUH over the last couple of months for the Maternity Services Users Liaison committee and Midwifery Services Users committee, where I can become the ‘voice of our clients’. Through this in July we had a group of 8 student midwives come into our Norwich centre as part of their placement. They met with 3 clients who told their stories and then answered questions from the student midwives. The students learnt about the work that TimeNorfolk does and the importance of the role that a midwife plays when a patient has a baby loss.
Do read on for updates from the summer as well an exciting new project we are involved with and dates for your diary.
Past Client Story
I had a mental health support worker who put me in touch with TimeNorfolk, and my life changed. It’s sad to me that I had to fall so far before anyone noticed. I was worried going to my first appointment with Jane*, but she was amazing. She listened and she cared; she told me everything was going to be OK and I started to believe her. We talked about everything over the next few months, and slowly but surely I started to see what I had been doing to myself over the years, and how I needed to change my perception of me.
Our time has come to an end now, and I leave a stronger and more self-aware person. I know I will have peaks and drops, but I know what to do now, and how to cope. Most of all I know where to go to get the help and support should I need it. Thank you, Time, for getting me back on track; I hope more doctors and nurses learn of you and take the time to help others like me.
NNUH Norfolk Lavender Suite
The Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital recognise the need for a bereavement suite for people who have experienced a loss during the latter part of their pregnancy.
TimeNorfolk will be working with the NNUH to help fund and shape The Norfolk Lavender Suite. We are aware from our clients feedback that although nothing can change their situation, finding themselves in a clinical room when you have just received the devastating news that your baby has died is not ideal.
We are aiming to create a space which is calming, tranquil, comfortable and private with access to things that might be needed to make this traumatic time more manageable and give bereaved parents one less thing to think about.
This room will enable TimeNorfolk to reach people at the time of their loss rather than months later.
TimeNorfolk have been successful in being selected as one of three charities for John Lewis Community Matters, any funding we receive through Community Matters will go towards the Norfolk Lavendar Suite.
You can play a part in creating the Norfolk Lavendar Suite by voting for TimeNorfolk in the Norwich John Lewis Store. You will find the Community Matters box in the catering area where from August you can place your green token in the box to make your vote count.
Here at TimeNorfolk we are passionate about counselling, we believe that done well, counselling has the potential to change lives for the better. This is why we put part of our energies into offering counselling skills training, we love to train our own practitioners but also enjoy opening our training to others outside of TimeNorfolk.
If you are interested in taking the first step towards becoming a trained counsellor, this could be for you.
This qualification is designed to give learners the underpinning knowledge, skills and competencies to use counselling skills ethically and safely in a variety of contexts and roles.
This qualification is for:
Those starting the first level of training as a professional counsellor

What a beautiful day we had for our Sky Dive!
We arrived at UK Parachuting, Beccles to blue skies and 6 very nervous but excited ladies ready to jump for TimeNorfolk!
After a briefing & a little wait the TimeNorfolk team went up in 2 planes and flew to the coast and back gaining a height of approximately 2 miles. This took around 15 minutes and during that time friends and family were on the ground trying to spot the plane!
Eventually we saw some tiny dots begin to fall from the sky. After around 30 seconds of free fall the parachutes opened and each one glided gracefully down to the ground. Once they’d dusted themselved off they were greeted by friends and family as well as a glass of bubbly to celebrate!
It was a great experience for everybody involved and some ladies even said they would do it again!
Midwife Suzy Hankinson shares why she took part in the jump:
‘I was lucky enough to spend a morning with the wonderful team at TimeNorfolk earlier this year during my midwifery training where I witnessed first-hand the incredible work they do to help women and men after pregnancy loss. As a small local charity, they rely heavily on volunteers and fundraising to continue this work, so how could I turn down an opportunity to leap out a plane, 2 miles up to help raise funds! Luckily I have some crazy friends, so I wont be alone up there as Vini New, Jenny Marris, Mei Lee Dunleavy and Jackie Turner also jumped at the chance of raising money for TimeNorfolk. I have seen first-hand how pregnancy loss deeply affects the lives of so many people; the free service offered at TimeNorfolk helps couples work through their own experience and their grief by offering counselling, compassion and time. ‘

40 Miles In May Update
During May 20 people took part in completing 40 Miles in a way that was a challenge to them and raised over £4000 for TimeNorfolk!
A lot of people gave up time and energy to complete 40 Miles in May in aid of TimeNorfolk. All the money raised will go towards supporting people following pregnancy loss in either in one to one or group sessions.
